When Surrender Feels Like a Freefall

When Surrender Feels Like a Freefall

Trusting His Ways When Yours Don’t Work Out

Hi sweet friend,

Let’s talk about a word that makes most of us a little uncomfortable: surrender.

It sounds so spiritual, so noble—and yet, it’s one of the hardest things we’re ever called to do. Especially for women like us who are used to holding it all together. We manage homes, jobs, schedules, emotions, and so many unseen battles. The thought of “letting go” doesn’t feel peaceful—it feels terrifying.

But what if surrender isn’t giving up…
What if it’s being held?

When I Had to Let Go

I’ve had more than one season where my plans unraveled like threads in my hands. Maybe you’ve been there too. You pray, you plan, you do all the “right” things, and still… things fall apart.

I was in one of those seasons when my marriage hit a breaking point. I had prayed so hard, tried so hard, and nothing was changing. I remember sobbing into my pillow one night and whispering, “God, I don’t know what else to do.”

And gently, quietly, I felt this whisper in my heart:
You don’t have to do more. Just let go. Let Me.

Surrender didn’t mean I stopped caring or trying. It meant I stopped striving. I released the outcome. I placed it in God’s hands and trusted that He loved me—and my husband—more than I ever could.

And slowly, God began to move in ways I never expected. Not always how I wanted—but always for my good.

What Surrender Isn’t

  • It’s not passivity or weakness.

  • It’s not saying “I don’t care anymore.”

  • It’s not giving up on the promise—just giving up the pressure to make it happen yourself.

Surrender is strength. It’s saying, “God, I trust You more than I trust myself.” It’s trading anxiety for peace—even if the situation doesn’t change right away.

His Ways Are Higher

I used to think I had to understand God to trust Him. But I’ve learned that faith isn’t about clarity—it’s about confidence in who He is.

📖 “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.’” — Isaiah 55:8–9

This verse has been an anchor in my seasons of surrender. It reminds me that even when life feels confusing or unfair, God is still good. He sees the whole picture. And He’s working in ways I can’t yet see.

A Simple Prayer of Surrender

If you're in a season where everything feels out of your hands, maybe it's because it is. And maybe that’s okay. Here’s a simple prayer I pray when I don’t have the words:

Lord, I don’t understand, but I trust You.
I lay down my plans, my fears, my expectations.
I release the outcome to You.
Help me rest in the truth that Your ways are better.
Not easier—but better.
You are my peace. You are my portion.
I surrender. Again. And again. Amen.

Healing to Meditate On

As we surrender our brokenness to God, He doesn’t just leave us there—He heals us. There is a deep healing that takes place when we let go and let Him work in our hearts.

📖 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

Take a moment to let that truth settle in. No wound is too deep for Him to heal. No heartache too great for His touch. As you surrender, trust that God is mending what is broken and making you whole again—piece by piece.

From My Heart to Yours

Surrender isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily choice. And sometimes, it’s a moment-by-moment one. But I promise you: there is peace on the other side of letting go.

Next time, I want to talk about something surrender makes room for: healing. Because when we finally stop clinging to our broken pieces, God can begin to mend what we thought was beyond repair.

You are seen. You are safe. And you are so very loved.

Drop a comment if you want prayer. I’d be honored to pray with you. We’re in this together, and I’m so grateful you’re here.

With open hands and a full heart,
Ashley 🤍
